ALIA Sydney Event - Focus On Indigenous Services
Celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day on 6th September, then follow up with this event aimed at helping you to find out what resources are available for your metropolitan indigenous community, how these resources are being used and developed, and how to improve your welcome for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders all year round.
Join us at this event on September 7th, at 6pm, in the Theatrette, Waverley Library. ALIA Sydney is delighted to present an evening with two wonderful speakers on Indigenous services, and at the same time collect money for The Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
Kirsten Thorpe from the Indigenous Services Unit at the State Library of New South Wales will showcase some of the work that unit does, in particular highlighting the digital resources that are available for you to use or download and improve your welcome for the indigenous community. For more information visit their website http://www.sl.nsw.gov.au/about-library-services/indigenous-services
Svetlana Paul is the Teacher Librarian for Gawura School, a K-6 school in its own right, co-located with St Andrews Cathedral School in the heart of Sydney, serving indigenous students from the inner city areas of Sydney. Gawura school is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. For more information about the school, visit the website http://www.gawura.nsw.edu.au
Our thanks go to Waverley Library for generously hosting this event. The Library is located at 32-48 Denison Street, Bondi Junction, just a short walk from Bondi Junction railway station. Parking is available under the library, entrance via Ebley Street, and is free for two hours with validation from the machine inside the library.
Please RSVP to aliasydneygroup@gmail.com so that we can judge numbers. We ask for a donation to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation from all attendees.
We look forward to meeting you there.
