Interested in joining the ALIA Sydney Committee for 2018?

ALIA Sydney is calling out for new members for 2018.

ALIA Sydney is currently looking for new committee members to join our team. On this Committee you will have the chance to develop skills in event and project management, and make vital professional connections -- plus you can have a lot of fun along the way! Because we cover a geographical area rather than a particular industry sector, our Committee works best when we have representation from many different organisations, and members in different stages of their career. Positions include Co-Ordinator, Treasurer, Secretary, Social Media Officer, and Event Officer. We welcome EOIs from all corners of the industry, including students.

ALIA Sydney presents a selection of formal and informal professional development events to encourage discussion and critical engagement, and create networking opportunities across the library and information sector in Sydney and beyond. The ALIA Sydney committee is a group of vibrant and committed volunteers who make it all happen. We are looking forward to a much more active 2018 and would like to at least double our Committee size.

Expressions of Interest (EOIs) should be received by COB Thursday 30 November 2017 . EOIs should briefly introduce yourself and why you are interested in joining the Committee. All EOIs and any questions should be directed to the current ALIA Sydney Co-Ordinator, Lauren Castan at aliasydneygroup@gmail.com

The interested person should:

·         Be, or be willing to become, a current member of ALIA.
·         Have an active interest in professional development with the Library & Information Sector.
·         Maintain an active awareness of new issues and developments within the sector.
·         Have strong communication and collaboration skills.
.     Be able to assist with the organisation and running of some events each year.
.     Attend regular meetings with the Committee.

ALIA Sydney Event - Focus On Indigenous Services

Celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day on 6th September, then follow up with this event aimed at helping you to find out what resources are available for your metropolitan indigenous community, how these resources are being used and developed,  and how to improve your welcome for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders all year round.

Join us at this event on September 7th, at 6pm, in the Theatrette, Waverley Library. ALIA Sydney is delighted to present an evening with two wonderful speakers on Indigenous services, and at the same time collect money for The Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

Kirsten Thorpe from the Indigenous Services Unit at the State Library of New South Wales will showcase some of the work that unit does, in particular highlighting the digital resources that are available for you to use or download and improve your welcome for the indigenous community. For more information visit their website http://www.sl.nsw.gov.au/about-library-services/indigenous-services

Svetlana Paul is the Teacher Librarian for Gawura School, a K-6 school in its own right, co-located with St Andrews Cathedral School in the heart of Sydney, serving indigenous students from the inner city areas of Sydney. Gawura school is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. For more information about the school, visit the website http://www.gawura.nsw.edu.au

Our thanks go to Waverley Library for generously hosting this event. The Library is located at 32-48 Denison Street, Bondi Junction, just a short walk from Bondi Junction railway station. Parking is available under the library, entrance via Ebley Street, and is free for two hours with validation from the machine inside the library.

Please RSVP to aliasydneygroup@gmail.com so that we can judge numbers. We ask for a donation to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation from all attendees.

We look forward to meeting you there.
